Rhine Valley Field Notes

About

These pages are kept by one observer in a village in the Rhine–Main lowlands, about forty metres above sea level, on the edge of a floodplain meadow.

The record began in 2016 with a rain gauge and a notebook, after a neighbour's much longer series ended with his death and nobody took it up. It is not affiliated with any institution and receives no funding.

Location

The precise location is not published, for the simple reason that the meadow is used by ground-nesting birds and has been disturbed before. Observations are made within three hundred metres of the same point every day, which is what matters for comparability.

Contact

By post only. Requests for the underlying tables, corrections and questions about method are all welcome; the address is given to anyone who asks through the local natural history society.

Reuse

Text and figures may be reused for non-commercial purposes with attribution to this site. If you use the series in published work, please say which years you used and note the unreliable periods.
